Supporting Change with Fashion Takes Action
June 19, 2025
At Eucalan, our dedication to eco-conscious garment care extends beyond our products. Through our 1% for the Planet membership, we contribute to organizations that share our commitment to sustainability. One such organization is Fashion Takes Action (FTA), a registered Canadian non-profit working to transform the fashion industry for the better.
Fashion Takes Action (FTA) is dedicated to advancing sustainability, ethics, and circularity in fashion. They bring together brands, governments, educators, and citizens to address the complex challenges facing the industry—from textile waste and fast fashion to greenwashing and consumer education.
As FTA shares:
"Our vision is a world where responsible fashion is the norm, ethics and circularity are stitched into every garment, and sustainable fashion is accessible to everyone."
FTA’s work goes beyond working with the fashion industry—like Eucalan, they believe change starts at home, with the everyday choices we make.
Their consumer education tools—like the Love Your Clothes platform—offer practical resources for learning how to repair, care for, donate, and rewear garments. From bite-sized explainers to how-to videos, the site helps individuals move away from fast fashion’s throwaway mindset and build a more sustainable wardrobe, one thoughtful decision at a time.
We especially love their emphasis on extending the life of clothing—a mission close to our heart at Eucalan. Proper care is a simple but powerful act, and when garments are well maintained, they last longer, waste less, and feel better to wear.
FTA’s Canadian Circular Textiles Consortium (CCTC) unites over 120 stakeholders—from recyclers and researchers to brands and policymakers—to work toward a zero-waste, circular textile economy.
As FTA explains:
"Meeting our climate and biodiversity goals requires a collaborative, systems-level response. No single organization can solve the textile waste crisis alone."
Caring for our clothing and our planet requires cooperation, creativity, and consistent effort.
At Eucalan, we often say that garment care is self-care—for both you and the planet. One of the most powerful ideas we share with Fashion Takes Action is that real change doesn’t always come from sweeping overhauls—it often begins with the quiet, consistent decisions we make every day.
Fashion Takes Action created the 7Rs of Fashion—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair, Repurpose, Rent, and Resale—to guide people toward a more circular approach to fashion. These aren’t just buzzwords; they’re practical, actionable steps that help each of us rethink our relationship with clothing.
FTA reminds us that we already have enough clothes in existence to dress the next six generations. That’s a staggering thought—and a powerful call to action. Rather than buying new, we can commit to caring for what we already own.
"We buy 60% more clothes than we did 20 years ago, but keep them for half as long. We all need to buy less. Full stop."
In 2025, FTA released a groundbreaking report on greenwashing in fashion, revealing that while Canadians want to make better choices, many don’t trust what they see.
Key findings:
79% believe greenwashing is a serious issue in fashion
76% think companies should be held accountable for false sustainability claims
Only 1 in 5 feel confident identifying truly sustainable products
This makes FTA’s work all the more urgent. They’re now focused on equipping people with the knowledge to make informed decisions—through student programs, employee workshops, and public tools like LoveYourClothes.ca.
Eucalan’s support for Fashion Takes Action through 1% for the Planet is just the beginning. We’re excited to deepen our connection with FTA by supporting their upcoming ReMode event in Montréal on September 28th—a circular fashion festival that celebrates conscious consumerism, creativity, and community.
ReMode is designed to inspire Canadians to rethink how they shop, wear, and care for their clothing. Through workshops, panels, hands-on demos, and a curated marketplace, the event invites participants to explore sustainable solutions and practical skills—like mending, swapping, upcycling, and mindful garment care.
At the show, Eucalan will be on site to help showcase how caring for your clothes properly can significantly prolong their life, reduce textile waste, and help you get more out of the pieces you already love. Whether it’s a vintage dress, a handknit hat, or a hand-me-down sweater, the way we wash and maintain our clothing matters.
We’re thrilled to be part of this event and look forward to connecting with a community that shares our passion for sustainability and style with purpose.
Stay tuned—we’ll be sharing more about ReMode as the date approaches, including how you can attend, what to expect, and how to join us in caring for your clothes and the planet.
